Haden Edwards received an empresario contract to settle 800 families near Nacogdoches. When he arrived with the families in the 1820s, he discovered people already lived there. They arrived long before Mexico gave him the grant. Edwards became very angry and tried to take over the town. The Mexican government did not support Edwards. Instead, they annulled his contract. Edwards stayed in the area and attempted to start a rebellion. On December 21, 1826, Edwards and his supporters claimed part of East Texas free and independent of Mexico. They named it the Republic of Fredonia. They even had support of the Cherokee in the area. However, most Anglo settlers in Texas did not support Haden’s rebellion. When a group of men from Austin’s colony joined with Mexican soldiers to march on Fredonia, Haden and his brother fled to the United States. The unrest caused Mexican leaders to rethink their immigration policies.

The Story

1.Jack looks nervous in new school 2. Groups of children laughing and playing together. Jackdoesnt have anyone to talk to 3. Teacher gathers the class and discusses an idea of a friendship spot 4.Teacher points to a special chair. If children feel lonely and have no friends they can sit in the friendship spot. 5. Next day, during recess, Jack found himself feeling lonely again. He sits on the special chair. 6. Many children come to Jack, "Hey, Jack! Do you want to play with us?" 7. Jack's face lit up with joy as he nodded eagerly. "Yes, please!" he exclaimed. And just like that, Jack found himself surrounded by new friends. They played games, shared stories, and laughed together until the bell rang, signaling the end of recess. From that day on, Jack's days at school were filled with laughter and friendship. He no longer felt lonely because he knew that whenever he needed them, his classmates would be there for him at the Friendship Spot.

Professor Pulley Fumé is always tinkering with new contraptions in his workshop, which is filled with pulleys, gears, and a mysterious smoky haze. One day the palace is visited by Monsieur Terrain: a wise, white-haired cartographer who creates detailed maps of the kingdom's vineyards for Queen Sovereign Blanc. He wears a white explorer's hat and carries a compass. Monsieur Terrain shows Sovereign Blanc a map of the kingdom and tells her he has found some good spots good for planting new vineyards. Sovereign Blanc asks Sincere of Sancerre to ride out on his white horse to see the new territory and report back. Before Sincere of Sancerre rides off, Professor Pulley Fumé gives him a gadget that will help him navigate more easily in the dark.
