But one day, Ben fell ill, and the doctor told his mother, "Ben must not eat any sweets. They will make his condition worse." His mother, though sad for Ben, promised to keep him safe. She kept the sweets away and prepared delicious, healthy meals to help him get better. But Ben, unable to resist his cravings, began sneaking sweets when his mother wasn't looking. Each time, he told himself, "Just one won't hurt." And when his mother asked if he had eaten any sweets, Ben would shake his head and say, "No, Mama." Days turned into weeks, and Ben's condition didn't improve. He grew weaker and weaker. One day, as he lay in bed feeling worse than ever, he finally admitted to his mother, "Mama, I've been eating sweets and lying about it. I'm sorry." His mother hugged him tightly, her eyes filled with tears. "Oh, Ben," she said gently, "I only asked you to avoid sweets because I love you and want you to get better. Hebe won a penguin dressed as Pikachu from Pokémon. Hebe also visited the yellow crane tower. Hebe went to the snow park to play and ski in the snow. I run my hand over the lid. “Let’s decorate it. I want it to look just right.” Page 13-14 I draw a heart, and Mom helps me write “I love Dad.” Now our box is ready. Page 15-16 We look for Dad’s things. I find his football jersey and hold it close. “It smells like him.” Page 17-18 We find football tickets. I smile. “I remember that game—it was so fun!” Page 19-20 I find a shiny rock. Me and Dad found this on the beach. “It’s lucky.” Page 21-22 I put everything inside the box and close the lid. “Now I have a box of love.” Page 23-24 The next morning, I open the box. I take out Dad’s jersey and hold it tight. I feel connected to him. Page 25-26 Then I look at the rock and remember our trip to the beach. I smile. Mom hugs me. “Dad isn’t here, but love never leaves.” I close the box and hold it close. Dad will always be with me.
